My first watercolor painting (and what I learned)
April 15, 2026 1 min read
I always thought watercolor was the easy art medium. You just dip the brush in water, swish some color, done — right? 😅
Wrong. So wrong.
Things I learned the hard way
- Less water is more. I made a giant blue puddle that took forever to dry.
- The paper matters. Regular paper buckles and tears. Watercolor paper is thicker and saves your life.
- Patience is a real thing. You have to let it dry between layers. I did not. I will next time.
What I painted
A little sunset over a hill, with a tiny tree on top. The tree mostly looks like broccoli. But it's my broccoli tree, and I'm proud of it. 🌳
What's next
I want to try painting a galaxy. Or maybe a cat. Or maybe a galaxy with a cat in it. The rules of watercolor say I can do whatever I want.
